-July 2001 Tax Tip-

President Bush recently signed a new tax bill, which lowers the tax brackets.  Instead of waiting until next spring to feel the tax reduction, the Treasury has decided to issue tax rebates.  The rebate is actually an "advance" of your refund that you normally wouldn't receive until next year.  The rebate is based off of your 2000 tax liability.  The Treasury will be sending out letters in July telling you if you will receive a rebate and the amount.  If you filed single, the most that you would receive is $300.  If you filed head of household, the most that you would receive is $500.  The max for married filing joint is $600.  The checks will start being distributed in July, so be sure to have your address updated at the post office.
